6 Reasons Why My House is Haunted

1) When we first had housemates, they were a spiritualist (person who communicates with the dead, or tries to summon them) named Crow and her son, Zander. Crow held séances (attempts to communicate with spirits) and had decorated her room with these cool crystals. Anyway, they had held the séances in our house and I believe that they had forgotten to bring the spirits back to the Underworld or whatever, because after they moved, strange things started happening.

2) There is a ‘murder closet’ in our house. It’s a small room we found that isn’t very noticeable, with a tiny door. It has hasty splashes of red paint (or blood) on the walls and floor. And it had scratches and writing on the walls. It’s really creepy.

3) When we got new housemates, the girl, Briana, saw a ‘dark, hooded figure’ when she was alone in the kitchen. This led her to believe that it’s name was Fredrick and he was haunting my closet.

4) On the night of December 9, 2013, while I was watching a show on my iPod, my bass (the instrument, not the fish) randomly fell down. That same night, but hours later, my older sister heard a large crash from her room, but everyone was asleep by then.

5) There are strange tapping noises in the night, pots and pans rattle for no reason, our electricity goes nuts and I think I hear voices from my supposedly haunted closet.

6) My older sister had attempted séances, excercisms, and even poured a whole box of sea salt in my closet, but nothing is working.

The Day of the Doctor

I am watching the first, second and third seasons of Doctor Who, wrapped up in my comforter from my room that I brought downstairs. It is about 34 degrees outside, and my fingers are getting numb, because I am attempting to play Minecraft on my iPad and I can not play it with my hands inside the blanket. My older sister, Kenna, and our housemate, Briana, are playing Scrabble while watching the Doctor save Rose. Again. They are giving each other extra points if they spell out a word that is Doctor Who related.

I think we might be taking the viewing of the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary show too seriously. For instance, I am wearing my 11th Doctor costume from Halloween (with a fez!!). Briana has a 9th Doctor jacket, a TARDIS shirt, and the 4th Doctor’s scarf. Kenna is wearing my fez and has a shirt that reads,”THE ANGELS HAVE THE PHONE BOX”. Tess has a shirt that says,”You Never Forget Your First Doctor”. I’m the only one in full costume. Also, we sent our mother to get fish fingers, custard, Jelly Babies, and cashews (Because it turns out that today is also National Cashew Day).

I am ending this post now because I can’t feel my fingers.

Wizard Academy

Last weekend, my dad’s brother, David, came from Missouri to visit.

I had never met my famous Uncle David. Actually, I had never met any family from my dad’s side. All I know is that his mother, father and sister had died, and his brother had had 3 wives and a new girlfriend. (When I had heard this, I had suspected him of being an axe murder. Turns out, be was only looking for love, but in all the wrong places.)

When I meet someone I had never known before, I try to avoid them as much as possible. Uncle David was no exception, but it was difficult to navigate around him in our tiny kitchen when he was making some weird fruit dessert and I was making my infamous potatoes. He tried to make small talk with me and my sisters at dinner, but we mostly mumbled and laughed at the appropriate times.

On the day before he was to leave on a 12-hour drive back to Missouri, we drove an hour to Driftwood, a city nearby. Driftwood was apparently famous for The Salt Lick, this huge BBQ restaurant that I had never heard of. The trip there was long and boring, and I had politely left my iPad at home, in case David wanted to talk.

He didn’t.

That was an hour of my life filled with uncomfortable silence that I will never get back.

The food at The Salt Lick was good, but I don’t think it was worth the drive. On the way home, I was looking out the window for entertainment. Then I saw it.

The sign that changed my perspective of the whole world.

A sign that read ‘Wizard Academy’.

So of course, we had to go there. We followed this long, dark trail with trees everywhere. There were strange lights that flickered among the mossy wilderness, fireflies. Then we saw it, the other sign.

According to Harry Potter, wizards can’t use technology of any kind.

Well, this sign was lit up with florescent lights, so it must not be Hogwarts.

But I took a picture anyways and went home.

Halloween Front Porch

This is something I had made up for the ‘Halloween Front Porch’ assignment in Mrs. Kriese’s class.

You are walking, your legs moving against your will, to that door, that awful door hidden in the shadows.
You know which door.
The one where monsters, your worst fears pop up behind in your dreams
Those nightmares where everything is crumbling into darkness.
And you are walking towards it.

Every step gets faster and faster, finally into a blur, yet, the air has turned into thick syrup, making your movements slow.
You want to scream, need to shriek, to get someone, anyone’s attention.
But you can’t.
Your mouth, arms, fingers are frozen with immense fear.
The only thing you can do is watch in horror.

The browning, dead grass, the wind whipping your clothes, everything about this night scares you.
You start to age, the years piling up on your shoulders like weights and you are sweating, thinking about what lies before you, behind the wooden door with the brass knocker and peeling paint.

But soon, your thoughts become still.
Because you’ve reached the door.

And knocked.

Beaker Ode To Joy

We are learning ‘Ode to Joy’ in orchestra. Although we do not have breaking glasses, violins catching on fire or screaming Muppets, it sounds more or less like this.
